Tyrol is one of the world’s great skiing regions, with over 80 ski areas and more than 3,000 kilometres of pistes. But what makes it special is that it offers something for everyone — from beginners finding their feet to experts seeking steep, wild terrain.

For beginners, resorts like Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis or Alpbach are ideal (At the time of writing I have not skied these resorts personally, just researched them). They have wide, gentle slopes, excellent ski schools, and a friendly, family-oriented atmosphere. Instructors are patient and often multilingual, and many areas have dedicated beginner zones with magic carpets and short lifts.

Intermediates will find paradise in places like Mayrhofen (would recommend), with its long cruisy runs, or Ischgl, where you can ski across the border into Switzerland. Advanced skiers can tackle the legendary Harakiri in Mayrhofen — Austria’s steepest groomed slope — or the deep powder routes off the Valluga in St. Anton.

The glacier resorts, such as Hintertux, offer year-round skiing, meaning you can carve turns in August with snow all around while wildflowers bloom in the valley.

And skiing here isn’t just about the sport. Mountain huts offer hearty meals and mulled wine; après-ski bars keep the party going well into the night. The scenery — jagged peaks, deep forests, wide valleys — is a constant reminder that you’re skiing in one of the most beautiful corners of the Alps.
